The Technique

FUE, the latest major technical advancement in hair restoration surgery, is a method used for harvesting grafts.

With the FUE technique, a large number of hair follicles can be harvested in a single day.

Follicular unit extraction (FUE)

The FUE method has excellent regrowth potential and trauma tolerance by patients, leaving them without any major scarring.

Each individual follicular unit is obtained directly from the scalp, rather than from a strip of donor tissue that has been removed from the scalp.

The FUE technique was originally performed manually using hand punches of various types in order to extract follicular units one by one.

In general, any patient who is a suitable candidate for hair restoration is a good candidate for this technique.

Benefits FUE:

  • It is possible to shave the head without any visible scar (hair can be reduced to <2 mm).
  • No sutures and no permanent linear scar.
  • Healing time: decreased postoperative pain.
  • Fewer limits on postoperative activities.
  • Ideal for a limited number of grafts.
  • Ideal with low density donor hair conditions.
  • Extraction of undesirable hair grafts.
  • Elimination of permanent hair growth angle distortion.
  • Ideal for repairing scars in the donor area.
  • Removal of unwanted grafts on the scalp.
