The Peruvian Hair Transplant Technique
FUE, the latest major technical advancement in hair restoration surgery, is a method used for harvesting follicular units within a hair transplant.
With the FUE technique, a large number of hair follicles can be harvested in a single day, optimizing the longevity of the hair transplant.
Follicular unit extraction (FUE)
The FUE method offers excellent regrowth potential and trauma tolerance, leaving patients without any significant scarring after hair transplantation.
Each individual follicular unit is obtained directly from the scalp, rather than from a strip of donor tissue that has been removed from the scalp.
The FUE technique was originally performed manually using various types of handheld punches to extract follicular units one by one, and then perform the hair transplant.
In general, any patient who is a suitable candidate for hair restoration is a good candidate for this technique.
FUE Benefits:
- It is possible to shave the head without any visible scar (hair can be reduced to <2 mm).
- No sutures and no permanent linear scarring.
- Healing time: decreased postoperative pain.
- Fewer limits on postoperative activities.
- Ideal for a limited number of grafts.
